Phil Vernon, Ph.D., spent nearly 15 years as a medical physicist in the United Kingdom before joining GE Medical Systems. He has held engineering and marketing roles within GE and prior to his retirement last fall, he was the Global Research Manager for PET and PET/CT. Phil's main responsibilities were focused on setting up and evaluating both internal and external research activities. External activities were primarily with university/medical school teams where GE funded research that was in line with GE's objectives, especially clinical trials to evaluate new technology. Internal programs were primarily focused on imaging technology. It was during his tenure that GE acquired Amersham's business, and so he became more closely involved with tracer development -- though his main roles were in strategic planning. Phil's role at GE Healthcare was to answer those questions. His primary role at NSI will be to help develop a meaningful relationship with GE's CT strategic planning group.
